Choose a backlit display when illuminated graphics are central to the presentation and you can provide power. Choose a standard fabric display when a printed backdrop meets the brief and you want fewer lighting components to manage. Compare the actual package, not just the photograph.
What is the practical difference?
A backlit display lights the graphic from behind using the included lighting system. A standard fabric display relies on the light in the room unless you add spotlights. Both can provide a complete frame-and-graphic backdrop; neither label tells you whether counters, shelves or monitor hardware come with it.
Which costs belong in the comparison?
Start with the selected frame-and-graphic price, then consider replacement graphics, shipping and the event services you need. Backlit displays also need an appropriate power connection at the booth. Electrical service ordered from an event organizer is separate from the display purchase. A lower purchase price alone does not establish a lower cost over several shows.
Compare two actual 10-foot packages
- WaveLine 10 ft Straight Display: a printed fabric backdrop with its frame and nylon travel bag. Spotlights and a CA700 hard case are separate.
- WaveLight 10 ft Lightbox: a backlit frame-and-graphic package. Review the current Included list, case information and selected graphic option before comparing its price with an unlit wall.
These are different packages, not identical products with different lighting. Check the current product pages for exact contents and prices.
Does double-sided printing mean both sides are illuminated?
Do not assume so. Printed sides, rear finish and illuminated faces describe different things. Check the selected configuration and the product's listed lighting components. A graphic printed on a second face is not, by itself, evidence of an additional light system.
What should I check before preparing backlit artwork?
Use the exact model's artwork template and supplier guidance. Makitso advises avoiding predominantly white, light-colored and gradient backgrounds on WaveLight graphics because the light arrays may show through. Backlit artwork choices deserve their own review; changing the frame does not make every graphic equally suitable.
